What's Up?

Neighborhood still has a few lilacs, heavy, heady roses, poppies almost finished, irises definitely done.  How can this be?  Spring flowers finished, summer flowers over-ripe?  Lawns trending more brown every day?

I haven't quite felt summer start yet, although a high school reunion sandwiched between two rigorous professional weeks was a very promising taste.  I am LOVING catching up with old friends, and the reunion weekend was totally worth all of the fretting that came before (should I attend even though I haven't written the great American novel?  What about liposuction...?).  I think I'll attend my 11th reunion, too. (ha)

Tonight was the weekly barbeque- our friends invite any and all to their home every Thursday from Memorial Day to Labor Day.  It is a boisterous, jovial, messy free-for-all with plenty of toddlers, dogs, brews and toys to go around.  Highly stimulating, yes, but don't you wish YOUR friends hosted a barbeque every week?  Want to come?  Because literally, all are invited.  Just bring a dish to share.

Looking very much like I will be attending another conference for a week in July, as a result of some groveling in various arenas.  I have found lodging and may have gotten free registration to the institute I am so, so longing to attend.  Do you think I can convince the airlines to send me gratis?  No?  Plus: food.  Ground transportation.  AND, the very real problem with the nerves- big scary city, country bumpkin me.

Time to grow up, I guess.
