Well. Some of them anyway.
Just got home from a big outing! It's late and bedtime for the little girl.Took Rose and her little buddy Lucas to visit the Molly Brown Summer House. It was a vast farm owned by the so-called "unsinkable" Molly Brown; now the house is owned by the third generation of the SECOND (third?) owners.
Mary Rose a.k.a. Momo, fourth generation, showed the kids all around the house, taught them about lintels, Lyons sandstone, eyebrow windows, and dragontail finials. She showed them a "secret window" and brought them into the beautiful parlor to show them picture after picture.
THEN SHE GAVE THEM GIFTS.
The reason we went is that Rose has to make a model of the home for a school social studies project. Momo gave Rose a cookie jar of the house- ($40!!) and Lucas a teddy bear.
She had such faith in Rose, gave me tips about sites that will read aloud to kids, praised her, trusted her, and loved her. I had- and actually still have- a big lump in my throat.
Happy day.

What a beautiful day and wonderful angel--you deserved that experience.
I received and read your e-mail and haven't replied because I thought it warranted more than a cursory reply. I've been thinking of you, my friend.
