heh, heh

Got a phone call last evening. Something to the effect of, "It's book club night and we're all WAITING FOR YOU."

Oops. I remembered in the morning, even mentioned it to Peter. Then I dashed off for a jam-packed day of science training. After that, made my LATE appearance at a birthday party in the neighborhood, and dragged my hot self and daughter home. Made a refreshing salad for dinner and settled in to watch "Bolt."

Of all the things I forget, book club is not one of them. We spent a little time last night talking about what book club is all about. For some, I think it's almost all about the book, with the social aspect a fairly small factor. For some, it's almost all about the social aspect, with the book as a nice medium for starting and finishing monthly gatherings. For me, it's a stronger, tempered alloy of the two. In other words, beyond reading plus friendship, it has become a new compound that is a deep and fundamental means of defining myself. It is part of the pulse of my life and our family's life. I talk about it and write about it frequently. I am proud that it is so deeply rooted in my persona that acquaintances factor it into the mental package they have of what make me ME.

So, forgetting it? Truly weird.

By the way, we read The Thirteenth Tale . I enjoyed the book, a wild ride of a modern gothic novel, with all kinds of twists and ghosts and a couple of serious ICK factors. Not a typical book club choice, but it did seem to fit all of the group's working criteria, and a great summer read.

Not a book I would have picked normally, but I was trying to expand my horizons. Once I got past one of the icky parts, the ending seemed to fly.
I'm glad you made.

Truly weird. And a strange-sounding book too. Sometimes its nice to change things up. We're reading fluff this summer. I don't even recall the title, but it will be a fun, easy, mindless read.

oooxxx

P.S. My girls and I ROLLED at your "satan" comment!
