Addiction

We awakened to 2-3 inches of snow, and NO COFFEE IN THE HOUSE. Well. We did have the same coffee I had been naively and blithely brewing and downing for the last couple of days. It turned out to be decaf, and I had nauseating headaches for two days in a row before I cleverly figured out that the morning coffee didn’t just TASTE different, it was a vile imposter.

I just returned from picking up coffee- it was an urgent errand and I did not compromise it with any tangential business. I had to shovel and sweep first, so the whole operation required about an hour… Fortunately I have a 15 year old son, so I just broke a trail to my car. He shoveled the worst of it.

Little Rose is sick as can be. She is a stoic little thing- surprising, since emotional surprises push her into Armageddon- and doesn’t complain. About 3 AM, she did ask me plaintively if she was almost done. Then she proposed, “How about just 3 more throw-ups, ok?” Of course I had to admit that I’m not in charge of how many throw-ups she’ll have to endure. Sweetheart.

Peter and I have a Valentine's date to the opera, but it's killing me to think of leaving her. The last tickets we had were for a play, and we had to miss that (and were unable to find anyone who could use the tix) because of a major parenting intervention- this one required by the teen. Last year, the tickets that I had gotten him for Christmas ended up being distributed among friends because he had a class that day... Criminy.
