Supposed to be a glorious day here, with a big cold front coming in tomorrow. I am going to a charity walk in a beautiful city park. Two of my friends have Polycystic Kidney Disease, and in fact have had kidney transplants. They recently found out that their other sister now needs a transplant. These two have been very good about supporting my own family's causes, and I'm proud to put some time and money into theirs. Should be a beautiful fall day, and I think I can be home by mid-morning!
Yesterday there was a neighborhood party. It was a memorial for a beautiful collie dog who passed away a few weeks ago. Dogs were invited! They all behaved beautifully. It's funny how you can know the dogs- sometimes even their names- but not their owners. Peter knew pretty much everyone and where they live. I did not. I didn't even know the hosts. But I sure knew their dog Nate. (Peter works outside a LOT in the summer, and he's a friendly guy. Plus we live on a corner, so we get a lot of foot traffic.) It was a poignant event, especially when the host tried to respond to sympathy about the loss of his pet, but it was also really heartwarming to see so many people come together. I love my neighborhood.
Rose wore a dog costume. Apparently she put it on first thing yesterday, and it's what she wanted to wear. The hostess had us play two truths and a lie, which might have felt a little stilted, but everyone played good-naturedly and it turned out to be fun. So, in the spirit of game-playing, Rose proposed "Red Rover." Nobody wanted to play that, but she did manage to get in some hide and seek with a couple of more agile grownups. She is pretty much irresistible.
