In Other News

  • I have two- possibly three- pieces to enter into an open-entry art show. It's one year since I tried it for the first time!
  • I'm going to a concert today with my daughter and another little girl, and some grown up friends of mine. It's Peter and the Wolf, and Carnival of the Animals.
  • Last week, Rose had invited a little girl from school to come for a play date. It was all arranged, and we had been building it up all week. Long story short, we got stood up.
  • The pain of THAT is the kind that portends a slide into depression.
  • We seem to have a plan for Andy's high school. After a couple of false starts, we received a letter of acceptance from a school that all of us can agree on.
  • I can't believe it's time for us to be preparing for high school, but maybe it's because I'm only 29, and I just happen to have a kid who is 14.
  • Still with me?
  • I am using only 9 fingers. I think that's why there's a small typo above.
  • I am back to counting points, and I've lost some weight. Not enough for people to notice, but enough to keep up the momentum.
  • The book club has enjoyed reading a couple of books set in WWII. The unfortunately titled The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society was heartily enjoyed by all. I recommend this one.
  • Five Quarters of the Orange, um, not so much. Extremely well- crafted, but just so foreboding. I understand her other novels are not so brooding, so maybe I'll take one up just to lose the aftertaste.
  • It's been mild and pretty, and the birds are outside singing drunkenly. This concerns me. It's early February. They're just holding on to false hope. And, as my friend Anonymous says, "Hope is a cruel impostor."

I caught the typo - I know you're 19.

Stood up?! The gut-wrenching nerve. I'm glad you're losing weight. Is your finger broken?
