New Facilitator

I don't know why I keep ending up in these facilitator positions. I used to have a pretty high opinion of my social skills, until I actually had to build consensus. Then I realized that I just have a pretty high opinion of myself in general. You know, the "Everyone would benefit from exposure to my reflection on that," type of approach.

So, yesterday and today, I took 18 hours of facilitator training for some national environmental education projects. And, like the training available to me as a Teacher Leader, it was CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT. What I really need, beyond the obvious humbling, is more about adult learning theory (termed, interestingly, andragogy).

Thank goodness for the internet- there are tons of sites I can use. But let's face it, just like classroom management theory, you can read all about it, but until you biff it a couple of times, and have subsequent nightmares about it for a couple of years, you don't really internalize the philosophy. No pain, no gain. My struggles this past year all contributed to moving me along in humility.

BUT! I have YOU, my FANS to continue taking my side. Because you will never, ever hear an unbiased account of my dealings. If I biff it, I can assure you, I will always blame the other party.

Facilitator Training? I can sum it up and save you time and money.

"You can't herd cats!"

ps. Of course, I'm not saying that I'm one of the cats. It's those others.

pss. yes, I'm still blogging

Over here! Over here! (hand-waving). I'm a fan!

I've been too far from the adult classroom for too long. My studies have consisted primarily of methods in removing the color blue, internet searches for anything involving birds or crawdads, and the Wii manual.

Humility? Is that still considered a virtue?

Oh, one more thing: I'd like to understand more about shopping lists involving boobies. Hilarious!
