The Old One Hundred

Rose and I have been very happily making "projects" in our art room, but ventured out with Daddy around noon today for some lunch. Suddenly- Oh!- I remembered that tomorrow is One Hundred Day.

For the uninitiated, that's the hundredth day of school, and the primary grades make a HUGE deal of it. (Last year, it was so VERY exciting that Rose bit another little girl, and had to be sent to the office, where she remained until I picked her up. Turned out that she had an ear infection, but with her sensory processing stuff, hadn't really figured out that her ear hurt... Anyway, it wasn't a good Hundreds Day for her.) So, each first grader needs to bring a hundred of something, nicely displayed.

As you know, we had already spent the weekend happily making "projects," so the shine was kind of off crafting, but we had no choice. Of course, collecting one hundred somethings would be EASY. One hundred orphaned socks, for example. But a hundred of something nicely displayed is another story, and requires a TRIP TO THE CRAFTS STORE!!! And boy do they know ALL ABOUT Hundreds Day. Knowing glances all around as the cashier rang up my $50... I laughed- 50 cents a day!- but seriously- at least $30.00 of it was unrelated to the project...

Our hundredth day was last Thursday--it's become quite the "thing" to do in schools these days. My favorite part? Now we're really counting down!
