Almost exactly one year ago, we learned the results of R's mri: hydrocephalus due to a malformation in her brain. To make a long story short, this malformation is a cyst in a place where some tissue should be connecting her two hemispheres, and is the result of a known but pretty rare syndrome named Dandy Walker syndrome, variant, or malformation. It explains so much about her. She has always had developmental delays, especially in motor planning. We really don't know what to anticipate, but she is currently holding her own (with TONS of support) in kindergarten. She is medically very robust, thank goodness. I know many families really struggle with shunts due to the hydro-, breathing, swallowing, ambulation problems, and who knows what all. Our little Dandy Walker is content in believing that the world revolves around her, and very little evidence shows up to convince her otherwise. She has a ton of charm, and the will-power of an avalanche.
So here in GJ.
P didn't sleep well; he never does in a motel, and is now crabby and not-so-subtly blaming the rest of us. Well, it's true that sleeping with the preteen is like a jiu-jitsu meet...
Rose has been contentedly playing with her ppockets new and old, and is about to take a big bath with them. I did "knit" ( I say that because I am using a spool-knitter) with metallic embroidery floss, but wasn't happy with it and pulled it apart.
And how about SNOW IN DENVER...? If there was supposed to be school, it was called off. It has snowed here, too.
Saw the f-i-l and m-i-l yesterday evening, then over to s-i-l for a fabulous dinner and some catching up. I keep trying to get her to come and do interior design for my house, but she keeps on staying here with her family. huh
Lunch with the parents-in-law, dinner at the other s-i-l's house, with various other in-laws. It is very sweet to see A and R with their cousins and aunties, etc. R. got a new ppocket set, which she gave thanks for 7 or 8 times, and A got a little remote controlled car, which has now been in the parking lot, lobby and corridor. It has little headlights.
Oh, and resolutions? I think I'm going to have to address personal upkeep beyond the jazzing, and I'm going to steel myself against pre-teen eye-rolling in order to nag about pre-teen hygiene and asthma meds.
Ta-ta for now, sassies.

Hello dear s-i-l,
We loved having you here and wish that we didn't have to share you with anyone. And that we lived closer together. I will someday get up to Denver to decorate your home. Unlimited funds on the American Express, right? In that case, Zebra hide everything!
Thank you for the books. I have taken a vacation from chummy Winston and am reading the first Doig book. That was quite a switch for the mind. I was heading into WWI and the next thing I knew it was Montana and sheep countin' time. I need to make those transitions more smoothly.
I miss you all & love you! Give hugs & kisses to Andy, Rose & especially to that wonderful brother of mine. I still adore him.
s-i-l, t
